LAHANOSALATA

Lahanosalata is a traditional Greek cabbage salad, crisp shredded cabbage tossed with a tangy dressing of olive oil, lemon juice or vinegar, salt and pepper, often brightened with grated carrot, spring onion or a sprinkle of fresh herbs. It originates from rural Greece where simple, seasonal vegetables were transformed into refreshing meze and side dishes. The ‘lahano’ translating to cabbage and the ‘salata’ translating to salad, this is Greece’s answer to the classic coleslaw that’s beloved around the world. The addition of sesame seeds give the dish a toasty nutty finish, and the dressing is light and punchy, opposed to the creamy and heavy style coleslaws you may be more accustom to.
